Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how the AI Visibility app ("the App", "we", "us") handles data when a Shopify merchant ("you", "the merchant") installs and uses it. The App helps merchants measure how visible their products are across AI shopping assistants (Claude, Gemini, ChatGPT, and Perplexity), see which AI channels drive real orders, and get suggestions to improve their visibility.
Last updated: 24 June 2026
We have designed the App to collect as little data as possible. In particular, the App does not access, request, or store any of your customers' personal information — no names, email addresses, phone numbers, or shipping/billing addresses.
01 Data we access and store
To provide the App's features, we store the following in our own database:
| Data | What it is | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Store identifier | Your Shopify store domain (e.g. your-store.myshopify.com) |
To associate your data with your store |
| Product catalogue data | Product titles, IDs, vendor, type, and AI-generated search prompts and visibility results | To run and display visibility checks |
| Aggregate visibility scores | Daily summary numbers (overall score, per-engine percentages, counts) | To show your trend over time |
| Merchant account details | Provided by Shopify during install: the installing user's name, email, and an access token used to call the Shopify API on your behalf | Standard Shopify app authentication and session management |
None of the data above relates to your end customers. The "merchant account details" are limited to the Shopify staff account that installs the App, and are provided and managed through Shopify's standard OAuth login flow.
02 Order data (AI-Attributed Revenue)
If you are on a paid plan, the App reads your store's order history for the last 60 days to calculate how much revenue is attributable to AI shopping assistants. For this we read only: order number, order total, the sales channel / app that created the order, anonymous traffic attribution (such as referring URL and UTM tags), and line-item product IDs and amounts.
Important: We do not read or store any customer identity from your orders — no customer name, email, phone, or address. Order data is processed in memory only to compute aggregate totals (such as "revenue per AI channel"). Individual orders and raw attribution details are never written to our database and never shown beyond the aggregate numbers in the App.
03 Third-party services we share data with
To check product visibility, the App sends a generic buyer-intent search query (for example, "best insulated tumbler") to the AI providers below. Your product title may also be sent to Anthropic to generate prompts and to evaluate results. No customer data, order data, or personal information is ever sent to any of these providers.
| Provider | What is sent |
|---|---|
| Anthropic (Claude) | Product title / vendor / type and the generated search prompt; AI results for evaluation |
| OpenAI (ChatGPT) | The search prompt only |
| Google (Gemini) | The search prompt only |
| Perplexity | The search prompt only |
Each provider processes this data under its own privacy and data-handling terms. We encourage you to review their policies. We do not sell, rent, or share your data with any other third parties for advertising or marketing.
04 Publicly available store data
The App's "AI Readiness" features read your storefront's publicly available robots.txt file (to check whether AI crawlers are allowed) and generate an llms.txt file from your public product information. This uses only information already visible to anyone browsing your store, and the generated file is shown to you to copy — it is not stored or sent to third parties.
05 How data is stored and protected
- Data is stored in a database on a secure private server operated by us. Depending on our hosting provider, data may be processed in the country in which that provider operates.
- All communication between your browser, Shopify, and the App is encrypted in transit (HTTPS).
- Access tokens and API credentials are kept server-side and are never exposed to the browser.
- We do not store your customers' personal data at all, which by design minimises privacy risk.
06 Data retention and deletion
- We retain your store's visibility data only while the App is installed (and briefly afterward, in case you reinstall).
- When you uninstall the App, your Shopify session and access token are deleted.
- When Shopify sends a
shop/redactrequest (which occurs after uninstall under Shopify's data-protection process), we delete all data associated with your store — visibility checks, cached prompts, score history, and session records. - Because we store no end-customer personal data, Shopify's
customers/data_requestandcustomers/redactrequests require no action — there is no customer data to return or erase.
07 Your rights
You may request access to, correction of, or deletion of the data we hold about your store at any time by contacting us (see below) or by uninstalling the App, which triggers deletion as described above. Depending on your location, you may have additional rights under laws such as the GDPR or CCPA.
08 Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date at the top of this page.
